As seen on TV! #2
Ferrari Testarossa 1984-1991
Why this model?
In the 80s, drug trafficking was something that happened out of control all over the world. Miami was a theoretically pivotal point for drug entry into the USA. This was the framework that justified the series “Miami Vice” (Action in Miami), which portrayed the exciting lives of two detectives from the anti-trafficking squad. Analyzing the main character, it was legitimate for the viewer to wonder whether the scriptwriters were themselves consumers, otherwise let's see: in what world would it be possible for a police officer to live on a yacht with a pet crocodile called Elvis and drive a white Ferrari Testarossa every day, using a suit in the same color? What if before the Testarossa, this agent's “utility” was a Daytona Spyder? Not even in the most optimistic “American dream”. In Portugal, “Sonny Crockett” would eat in a shabby cantina, wear flannel pants and drive a Mirafiori if he was lucky, or a Seat Malaga if he was unlucky. Despite all the improbability, the series was such a success that Ferrari offered two black Testarossas to the production, which would later be painted white for better results in night scenes. The “double car” was a modified De Tomaso Pantera.
What to look for
The Testarossa is perhaps proof that, in supercars of the 80s, exuberance was the key word. Until 1984, the Italian icon of the moment was the Lamborghini Countach. A model that, dynamically, was imperfect, but which combined remarkable performance with a design that bore no resemblance to any real vehicle. The Maranello rival was then the 512 BB, a car that had a silhouette not very different from the 308 GTB, but in an ugly way. Before leaving for oblivion, the 512 BB left behind its powerful and robust “boxer” engine and, to dress it, Ferrari entered unexplored territories. Pininfarina forgot the brand's classic standards and created one of the most present sports cars ever designed and which, despite having no aesthetic link with the past, was unequivocally a Ferrari. Inside, only the chrome selector grille is recognizable. Despite being geometric and minimalist, the interior is comfortable and refined, like no super sports car before.
What is it for
Fast, comfortable and fantastic-sounding, the Testarossa is a GT, but it's still a true supercar. With a secure quote, you don't need to chase thieves. They come to you. Mainly those in finance and gas stations.
Profile of the “actor”
The Testarossa is like Jennifer Lawrence: despite his talent, there will always be those who appreciate him just for his curvy body.
Alternative
If you prefer the first car that Don Johnson drives in the series, the Daytona Spyder, do as the producers do: buy a Corvette C3 Convertible and use a lot of “scene makeup”.
